In the 1960’s our parents left Croatia for Australia in search of a better life, bringing with them their hard work ethic, culinary skills and love of food and family.
Cured meats have long been a staple of our family’s and of Croatia’s cuisine. Meats were originally preserved for longevity, keeping their families fed throughout the winter months or an alternative for preservation before refrigeration.
Back in the day meats were cured by salting them, adding flavours from spices and smoking over a wood fire. This not only gave the product an excellent flavour profile, but also further preserved the meat. Our key to success is harnessing our family’s age-old traditions to provide some of the best smallgoods you’ve ever tasted.
Our family originates from three different regions in Croatia: the Dalmatian Coast, Lika and Slavonia. Each of the regions have something different to offer, providing a unique taste relevant to the area.
The rich flavours we have created are a credit to our heritage, delivering that signature Skara taste in all of our products.
